It's Sunday the 14th of July, and my intentions of trying to write a fortnightly blog is just not working out. Also because I was so behind I was trying to catch up, which is why you will find a part of my blog is showing different dates. Not successful!! So I'm just going to be me, and write things as I remember them. The first thing I forgot to mention was that in Chicago I also went to a place called The Navy Pier. Another really nice place to visit if you're in Chicago. I thought it was a seaside resort as it had the same beach front as we have at home a bit like a posh Blackpool, but much bigger. It even drizzled a little, so I really felt at home.
It had many boats and some Navel ships scattered around, so I thought it was the sea. It was actually Lake Michigcan, which is the third largest lake of five connected lakes, and the only one that is completely inside the United States. The others are in Canada. Together they make a very large expanse of water. 'It's surprising what you find out when you Google! Even now I'm not sure if I've remembered it properly.' All I know is it's a cool place and fun, there was a great band playing and everyone just joined in and danced.
Having started this I'm determined to finish it today. We are going on a five day trip tomorrow to a couple of places called Gattlingburgh, and Pidgeon Ford in the mountains of Tennessee. It's another adventure, and maybe we'll see Dolly Parton. I think she has Dollywood somewhere around there in Tennessee,
I'm now writing this hours later from when I started. We have had four very nice visitors call so we have sat for chatting about our mutual friend's double birthday party last night. They are sisters and have the same birth date and as one was celebrating her 70th and her sister was celebrating ??? They decided it was a good idea to get together. There were people flying in from all over the States both friends and family which made it a lovely occasion. More wine.
Somewhere below is where I was trying really hard to catch up with dates, but there's always something that seems to get in my way. Like having a good time! I also caught a virous that actully knocked me off my legs for a couple of days, last weekend. The upside is I am coming home at least the same weight or a little less as I was when I arrived. Which if you had seen how many cook outs, birthday celebrations; and several, just because we could get togethers. As well as food these includeded Margareta's, cocktails, wine and my favourite, whisky with the men. It's some sort of miracle that I haven't put on a stone.
This is were I started last week before my virous. No, not a computer virous, I wouldn't have lost weight with that.(-:
Here I am in still in Sun City, at Carolina Lakes, Indian Land, trying to catch up with myself and realising how lucky I am to be with such nice people. I have been absolutley inundated with invitations to visit and eat and eat! The fresh fruit and veg taste wonderful; so do the puddings!
I arrived here in Carolina on Monday 3rd of June, and Tuesday 4th met 16 of the family at a cool restraunt with an awful name, it is called, 'Cowfish.' Although to be fair the food was really good and when I asked for chips the waiter knew what I meant as he was a great fan of Dr Who. We went to celebrate Pat's nephew, Brooke's, birthday. It was great catching up with everyone, and the three girls who are Pat's other nephew, Sean and his wife Leslie's, triplettes. They are changing already into very nice young ladies. I remember when they were born around eleven years ago. They all weighed in at just over 2lb each. It's great that things have moved on so much that they had the chance to grow up into the lovely girls that they are now.
Wednesday I had lunch with eight ladies who were friends of another one of the family, Vivian. She is a human dynamo I have never met anyone with so much energy.
Thursday I went to visit Jim and Candy, Pat's daughter. They have worked very hard and are now retired and moved into thier new home around 18 months ago. What a difference since I was last here. It is like, Shangrila. They now have two horses, two donkeys, two six months old Labradors. Also seven hens, that have all their own names, they had eight, but a hawk swooped down and took Ethel off to that place in the sky. Jim has made it impossible for it to happen again he has made sure they are safe. These are seven very lucky hens who certainly won't ever land up on a dinner plate. It has it's own lake and they have put in a swimming pool, hence the reason I called it Shangrila. That is a quick run down on how life is here all the time. I'ts hard, but I am managing!!
I have been exorcising in the swimming pool at the club here and I really have decided to join the swim baths at home as it so good and I have begun to swim again. I have to do something to help get these batwings under control,
I also went with Pat to have a hand and feet nail manicure session here. They do a gell nail varnish and it lasts until it grows out, unless you get it taken off. It's quite an experience having a pedicure here. Well mine was. First I asked how much the whole thing would be if I had gell on my finger nails and plain on my toes, the girl told me 55 dollers but 50 if it was cash. 'Ok I said,' So off Pat and I went, we sat together and young woman worked on Pat's hands as I sat waiting. The young woman who took my order did my gell nails, what a lot of attention these girls paid to the care of our nails. Then we were directed into another room where we sat in leather massage chairs with our feet soaking in a minature hot tub. Pat started to get her feet done with another nice young woman, and I waited for mine to start. Well surprise, it was a man. Now included is a short leg massage after all the work on your feet is finished. Pat finished after the girl has massaged her calves. When my toes were done, Lee, 'I asked him his name and that was surprise as he spoke very little English.' Well, Lee started my massage, I must impress it was only to the knees. Fifty minutes later he finished it. Pat had been finished and she sat waiting for me, every time he changed to a different lotion Pat and I looked at each other. I was pretty sure she was bored, but I wasn't; he had magic hands. In fact the thought went through my mind, lovely hands, shame about the face. When I finished I paid him and gave him a 10 doller tip. After all, who else would give an old lady a leg massage, and have the manners to look as though he was enjoying it as much as I was.
I still have so much to write about but it's time to pack for tomorrow and it's gone 11 pm, so time to say bye.
Take care all
