Yes it's me again I forgot to say a peacful, and Happy Easter to everyone. I hope it is all you hope for. (-:
It's a bright beautiful day today and the snow has gone. I'm sitting in my usual place writing this. I can see the sea and sky from the two windows the sea looks calm and the sky is blue. We have had the most lovely sunsets. i can't close my blinds untill the sun goes down into the sea, it is a new painting every night. Now because of the miracle the surgeon has worked on my eyes. NO GLASSES!! The down size of that is I can see every wrinkle, my face now looks like a road map. Still everyone tells a story. 'It must have been a long one!'
I'm always telling myself I won't let myself sit around staring at the telly, but I had my other eye done last week. Another amazing operation that changes your world. It's great now, but they give you strict instructions not to do anything that means bobbing your head up and down. To me that means no house work, so I just had to sit around and what else can you do but watch the box?
This is why I've just fallen in love again! I caught a program on television a few days ago. It was Nureyev, From Russia With Love. It's the true story of his life and deffection from Russia as a great ballerina. This man was so good looking and there was no one who could dance as elegantly and yet still ooz so much sex appeal. I'm not sure if he had a movie made about his life? Someone out there may be able to tell me! This true film is as interesting as any film that could have been made, and I was dissappointed when it finished . I also watched Mrs Brown's Boy's, It was the wedding day. I laughed so much I worried that if one of my nieghbours heard me they would think I was having a fit.
Well, I said I liked a little snow. And have we got it! It's beautiful to look at through the window. Still the terrible gale force winds with it make it a cruel beauty, doesn't it? It has affected so many people, there were seventy vehicles that the people had to be rescued from on the A595 last night. The awful winds had caused 15 foot drifts on the main roads. They at least managed to get a nights care in a Millom school.
Here I am and it's a new day, I had three friends visit me through the day yesterday. Although it held me up from getting on with my blog, I really appreciate them calling when I can't get out. I gave my car up nine years ago to help the atmosphere. Not sure if I've already told you that! I also bought one two years ago realising that I hadn't done a blind bit of good to the atmosphere. I haven't got it now it was a death trap and I had to have it destroyed as I couldn't have sold it to any one else with a clear conscience. Still, I did find out I could drive as I drove it to Carlisle and back to get my tax disc, before I found out how dangerous it was. A brave friend went with me and I only frightened her twice. (-:
The thick drifting snow outside my window, reminds about my experience with the snow in 1947. Tt was a terrible time then, but the first day it started it looked beautiful. I didn't go to school that day, mam said it was too far to walk in the snow. So she kept me off to work in our shop in Vernon Street. AlthoughI was only eleven I had all ready learnt how to serve and stack shelves and I loved helping in the shop. The only thing was, we always had the shop door open, the snow was blowing in and it was freezing. I shouted upstairs to mam to let me close the door.
She said, 'No, work a bit harder and you won't feel the cold. ' I was really mad at her because there she was, sitting in front of the fire. I wished horrible things, but daren't answer her back. Then suddenly, believe it or not, a huge horse walked in. She had to come down then! I thought it was great, and fed it carrots, the horse looked lovely all covered in snow. Mam had to go out in the snow because we hadn't a phone, but first we led the horse outside and tied it to the gas lamp post. Mam went down the street to a woman called Mrs Brady's house, to phone the police. Mrs Brady must have been fed up at times as the entire area used her to phone in emergencies. (They had a horse and cart business and were the only one around us with a phone.) When the police came they said the horse had escaped from the rag and bone man. He came and took it away, I was a bit dissapointed. Still most of the nieghbours came out to see it and it made the shop quite busy so mam had to work as well. Every where was frozen and it was so cold for so long we even had a potatoe famine as all the potatoes rotted in the ground. In fact the times were so hard then, we had more food shortages at that time than in the WW2.
I must have had a premonition about the snow, I did a big shop on Wednesday I couldn't get out for three days. because the wind was so fierce. Still I had several phone calls from friends to see if I needed anything, which was nice. I would have loved to have walked in the new snow though. There is a magic that you get as a kid seeing your first footsteps in the snow, isn't there! I bet most of you reading this are getting on a bit but still enjoy it. The last time I made an Angel in the snow was in my late fifties. I think why can't I do it now, and I realise it's too late this year. The reason is because of my cracked hip, and I daren't take chances at my age.
I've had an xray and it's healed, but they decided I needed full skeleton scan as they thought things were worse than the xray showed. I'm only telling you this because I had no idea there was a Nuclear, Gamma Ray scanner in the hospital. They told me I could drive home, well I haven't a car, so thought I would get the bus back home. Wrong. I hadn't to sit next to a pregnant women or a young child and my bus rout seems to be full of young pregnant mums and small kids. Luckily a friend picked me up and dropped me off.
I earned another certificate today, It was for Customer Service Skills. I was shocked as in two and a half hours I recieved a certificate. In over sixty years I have been using customer service skills and never knew I would one day get a certificate for just two and a half hours work!!
It's midnight and I have to be out at 9-30 in the morning. So I have to say Bye and hope you have all been safe, well, and warm through this cold weather.
Take care Lilian
